Honorable Bronna Kahle State Representative
Post Office Box 30014,  Lansing MI 48909

Dear Representative Kahle:

Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) is pleased to inform you that Lenawee Now in your district was recently awarded a COVID-19 Response Grant for $10,000. MCAN’s grants in your district are made possible by a state appropriation and generous support from philanthropic partners. This grant was funded by the Kresge Foundation.

Lenawee Now will use its grant to reach out to students who have delayed the decision to go to college due to the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. Its goal is to connect these students with employers who offer tuition assistance, allowing them to earn college credits while working.

About MCAN’s COVID-19 Response Grants
The grants were announced by MCAN in early April 2020 to demonstrate MCAN’s responsiveness to and support of communities affected by the global health pandemic that continues to have a major impact in Michigan, predominantly in minority communities MCAN serves. These grants help Michigan high schools, Local College Access Networks, community-based nonprofit organizations, and higher education institutions support postsecondary efforts in their communities.

As the leader in the state’s college access movement, Michigan College Access Network (MCAN) exists to increase Michigan’s college readiness, participation and completion rates, particularly among low-income students, first-generation college-going students, and students of color. Our goal is to increase Michigan’s postsecondary educational attainment rate from 45.5% to 60% by the year 2030 in line with the state’s Sixty by 30 focus.
