400 students from across Lenawee County joined 20 of our local manufacturing companies for Manufacturing Day this year. Each student who participated in the event toured and talked with two different local companies prior to a lunch with peers and industry representatives.
Each year, the students are given a half-day dedicated to follow-up discussions in the class room. During this time the students work with their teachers to research and learn how to use message boards to communicate with companies through MI Bright Future.
Engagement in activities such as Manufacturing Day is extremely important for local workforce development and talent retention. By participating in events like this, Lenawee students are able to understand the variety of exciting careers available within Lenawee County. With local manufacturing on an up rise and many employees approaching retirement, local manufacturers are looking for well-educated and hard-working prospects. “We are extremely pleased with this year’s turnout,” explains Jim Van Doren, Executive Director for Lenawee Now. “Filling Lenawee’s talent gap is one of our top priorities, and Manufacturing Day has been a major help.”
Thank you to all participating companies, of which included: IDIDIT, Rare Tool, Axis Engineering, Glycon, Kirchhoff, Ross Design, Watts Water, Rima, Hi-Lex, Kamco, General Broach, L&W, Uckele, Hardwoods of Michigan, Heinen Avionics, Anderson Development, Inteva, Aget, Wacker Chemical, Adrian Precision, Adrian Steel, and Martinrea.
