Aubree’s Pizzeria and Grill is a new restaurant that is coming to Adrian, MI. Aubree’s is known for their extensive menu including signature pizzas, fresh salads, and gluten friendly options, all at affordable pricing. Aubree’s Pizzeria and Grill has been working closely with Adrian’s Brownfield Redevelopment Authority (BRA).
Chris Miller, Downtown Development Authority and Economic Development Coordinator for the city of Adrian, explained that brownfields are areas that are difficult to use because of “environmental challenges.” These challenges are caused by what the land and/or buildings have previously been used for or structures that are “functionally obsolete” due to today’s standards. Often the BRA uses incentives such as loans and grants to encourage developers to utilize a brownfield.
The brownfield that Aubree’s Pizzeria and Grill will be redeveloping was originally owned by the Adrian Mall. According to The Daily Telegram, this property was left as a brownfield after the previous tenants had closed down.
Brownfields are generally commercial or industrial sites. Miller explained that the City of Adrian has used Brownfield incentives recently for commercial projects. One success story for local brownfield redevelopment is the Buffalo Wild Wings which opened last summer.
Diane Rauser, owner of Sass in downtown Adrian and a big fan of Aubree’s, is excited for the new location coming to Adrian. “Aubree’s Pizza is a child-friendly location that is accommodating for large groups, and has great service,” says Diane, who usually visits the Dexter, MI. location with her family.
