Lenawee Now and the Align Center for Workforce Development will be hosting their fourth Economic Club Luncheon. This event will take place on Tuesday, November 19th, from 11:30 AM – 1 PM at the Centre in Adrian. The Luncheon provides networking opportunities and will feature Brian Calley, Former Lieutenant Governor and current President and CEO of the Small Business Association of Michigan (SBAM) as keynote speaker.
Economic Club Luncheons began in 2022 and provide various perspectives and dialogue on key economic issues. Throughout the Luncheons, College presidents, nationally acclaimed authors, and technology innovators have shared insights on relevant developments regarding the state of business, workforce, and education.
Organizers are creating a speaker series for 2025, with luncheons and presenters held three times a year, in winter, spring, and fall. According to Ron Griffith, Interim Executive Director of the Align Center for Workforce Development: “We are pleased to be able to provide forums related to economic development.”
Brian Calley will be starting this line-up, delivering a talk about the business climate and how it relates to the Michigan economy. Calley has a breadth of experience in the public and private sectors. In addition, Calley sits on the boards of numerous educational, business, and charitable organizations, and has given a TED Talk at TEDxDetroit.
Calley served as the Lieutenant Governor under Rick Snyder. As Lieutenant Governor he made Michigan more economically competitive and lifted the state’s business tax climate from the 49th-worst to the top 10. Since 2019, Calley has been the President of SBAM, where he advocates for businesses throughout the state.
