PROPERTY OWNER MEETING TO INTRODUCE RENTAL REHAB PROGRAM
Monday, Feb 10th @ 1:00 PM – Joe Ann Steele Carriage House / Behind 130 N. Main on Main Street, Downtown Adrian, MI

Downtown Adrian, February 5, 2013 — The City of Adrian will be applying for funds through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority (MSHDA) – Rental Rehab Program, to develop the upper stories of approximately ten historic buildings in Downtown Adrian. A Property Owner meeting is scheduled for this Monday, February 10th to introduce the program to interested Downtown stakeholders. The meeting is open to the public and everyone is welcome to attend!

MSHDA’s Rental Rehabilitation program offers significant financial support and technical assistance and is one of the most powerful economic development incentive programs currently available to downtown property owners. Qualified property owners can receive up to $35,000, per rental unit.

Smith Housing and Eriksen Development Company were selected by the City of Adrian to administer the grant and will be working as a liaison between the City, property owner, construction crew, architect, inspector and the State. “We are overjoyed to have this opportunity. Our team eagerly looks forward to witnessing the transformation of these historic buildings into distinct, residential living spaces. We can’t wait for construction to begin!” stated Kathleen Eriksen, Eriksen Development Company.

Chris Miller, DDA and Economic Development Coordinator for the City of Adrian, also thinks Adrian is perfectly positioned to take advantage of a historic shift happening in communities across the world – a shift back to traditional Downtowns as the social and cultural center of life. “A whole new world of opportunity is before us if we manage what we can control, and central to that opportunity is Downtown residential life. Simply put, people want to live Downtown; lots of people, young and old, new professionals and empty nesters. People want to live in unique spaces, eat at unique restaurants, and be entertained in unique venues. Downtown Adrian has these assets, and we can utilize them. Renovating upper floors in beautiful historic buildings and creating residential spaces is the best way we can control our own destiny and make Adrian’s Downtown the vital and vibrant core of Lenawee County.” stated Chris Miller.
