From our partners at the City of Adrian:
Adrian and virtually every community in our state was built by entrepreneurs; someone solved a problem, took advantage of an asset, or had an innovative idea and simply started working on it. As we work to re-establish Adrian and Lenawee County as a place that welcomes and supports entrepreneurs, a key piece of the puzzle is finding ways to bring local investors to the table. Start-up businesses are often not in position to go to the bank and get loans, and so as we return to past practices, we’ve recognized that when our communities were first established and grew, there was significantly more local capital available.
To address this need to broadly engage everyone in the community in this local investment model, we have partnered with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), the Michigan Municipal League, the National Coalition for Community Capital, Michigan Main Street, the Small Business Development Centers, and our colleagues at ReValue, an investment advisory firm that is among the national leaders on the local investing front.
This partnership is currently offering about a dozen communities in the state a training workshop called Grubstake, and Grubstake is coming to Adrian Thursday September 12. The program is largely underwritten by the MEDC, with just a $10 fee for participants.
