The Association for Career and Technical Education (ACTE) wrapped up another annual convention and career expo in Nashville, Tennessee. The four-day conference revolved around discussing, supporting, and envisioning the future of career tech opportunities. This event is one of the largest gatherings of career technical education (CTE) professionals each year. Over 4,000 attendees visited workshops, breakout sessions, and CTE sessions. Highlights included networking among 200 exhibitors, over 300 breakout sessions, tours, awards and recognition, CareerTech Expo workshops, and a keynote presentation from Kayleen McCabe, host of DIY Network’s Rescue Renovation.

Lenawee Now’s Director of Operations, Tim Robinson, attended with Jack Townsley, Supervisor of Placement and Adult Learning Services at the LISD TECH Center. They spoke during a collection of sessions focused on the association of career technical education with future talent. Tim and Jack talked about the LISD TECH Center’s annual Reverse Job Fair and Align.

“Having the opportunity to share what Lenawee County is working on to strengthen the future of CTE talent was beneficial in so many ways,” explains Tim. “Not only did we receive great feedback, but we also learned about new programs other counties are implementing.”

Conferences like this not only advocate the work we devote towards future talent in Lenawee County, but give us a look into what other economic development organizations are doing. Tim and Jack represented our county among national CTE professionals and brought back useful knowledge to share. Thank you to ACTE and everyone who made this event possible. We hope to see you again in San Antonio for CareerTech Vision 2018!
