The LISD TECH Center has been named to the 2014-2015 Elite 50, an exclusive group of high schools and career and technical schools from across the country.

The LISD TECH Center Culinary Arts program has been named to the 2014-2015 Elite 50, an exclusive group of high schools and career and technical schools from across the country as selected by Sullivan University (a well-known culinary school in Louisville, Kentucky).

The Elite 50 is comprised of high schools and career and technical schools that excel in the areas of culinary arts, baking and pastry arts, and/or hospitality management. Some are state and national competition winners from ProStart, SkillsUSA and Family Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA). Research was also conducted to establish schools with strong hospitality enrollment and influence in their community. Visits were specifically made to schools deemed to have strong hospitality studies programs.

Additional criteria for those selected for the Elite 50 included: an original recipe with photos or a restaurant management design; two essays from students on the topic, “Why I want to pursue a career in hospitality”; and video(s), brochure(s) and additional information about the school’s program. Further considerations were given to schools that operate a restaurant or offer catering service, etc. as part of culinary/hospitality training.

Every year, graduates from Sullivan University’s National Center for Hospitality Studies pursue successful careers in virtually every corner of the globe and every aspect of the hospitality industry. The foundation for those successful careers begins with programs such as those recognized through the Elite 50 that instruct and inspire the hospitality success stories of tomorrow.

Congratulations to Jake Graf, instructor, and the students from the LISD TECH Center Culinary Arts program, for your efforts which led to your program’s selection for this award.
