Siena Heights professor’s website is a walking tour of Adrian history

AR-160809274A Siena Heights University professor has retooled an online labor of love for Adrian’s historical architecture. Art history professor Peter Barr has launched the website adrianarchitecture.org, which features a new, self-guided walking tour of the city of Adrian’s historic district. Pictures and information have been updated from the former site created more than a decade ago, Barr said. The tour features the Dennis and State streets historic district, Barr said, a neighborhood of privately owned homes listed since 1975 on the National Register of Historic Places. Adrian College Selected by Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency as Veteran-Friendly School

news_storyThe Michigan Veterans Affairs Agency recently announced the 2015 Veteran-friendly schools in Michigan. These selections come as part of the agency’s Michigan Veteran-Friendly School program, a program that formally recognizes institutions of higher learning committed to supporting the needs of student veterans and dependents. Adrian College has been named as a Veteran-friendly school at the silver level for 2016.

Pilot helps others stay airborne

AR-160809266After serving in the Navy, where he worked on aircraft, and then becoming a licensed pilot, Clinton Heinen decided he wanted to put his training to good use by starting his own avionics repair shop. The New Jersey native-turned-Lenawee County resident opened Heinen Avionics LLC at the Lenawee County Airport more than 20 years ago. Even during a stretch where he worked for a couple of different airlines, “I always maintained my own shop,” he said. Then the recession of several years ago forced him to shut his business down for a time. He reopened two or three years ago. Now that he’s at a point where he’s been able to add brand-new equipment that allows him to run a full-service avionics operation, he’s having a “grand re-opening” for his new repair station.
