Facade funding OK’d for downtown Adrian
After two years of waiting, Adrian’s downtown facade project is getting crucial funding. The city of Adrian received word Tuesday that the Michigan Strategic Fund voted to award Adrian $1.45 million in community development block grant (CDBG) funds for facade improvements to six buildings in downtown, including the Croswell Opera House and Lenawee County Historical Museum. The project is expected to generate private investment of $558,533. According to Adrian Economic Development and Downtown Development Authority Coordinator Chris Miller, he along with Jere Righter, Don Taylor and Ashley Palmer joined Adrian’s Michigan Economic Development Corp. representative Marilyn Crowley at the fund’s board meeting.

Lenawee County’s April jobless rate falls to 3.8%
April job gains pushed Lenawee County’s jobless rate down to 3.8 percent, the lowest since December’s 3.6 percent, according to figures released Thursday by the Michigan Department of Technology, Management and Budget. An estimated 173 jobs were added for the month, boosting the number of employed to 46,595. The number of employed workers in the county was up 1,166 from April 2015, when the jobless rate was 4.7 percent. Since April 2015, jobless rates have declined in all of the state’s major labor markets.
ProMedica’s plans for new hospital on M-52 progressing
ProMedica is moving ahead with plans to build a single replacement on M-52 for Bixby and Herrick hospitals. Speaking Thursday at Adrian in the A.M., the monthly session hosted by the Adrian Area Chamber of Commerce, Dr. Julie Yaroch, president of ProMedica Bixby and Herrick hospitals in Adrian and Tecumseh, said she was brought in last fall as president to take a new look at the plan and make any needed changes. As a resident of Lenawee County and practitioner, her perspective was sought to lead the plan.
