Adrian College Health and Medical Clinic Groundbreaking Ceremony
It’s official! The building process for Adrian College’s new health and medical clinic is underway. The groundbreaking ceremony was held on May 13th as project leaders dug the first patches of dirt on site. The facility will be located just off Charles Street between the Arrington Ice Arena and Docking Stadium. This opportunity wouldn’t be possible without support from Adrian Steel and ProMedica, who are providing initial funding. The state-of-the art facility will house several doctors and medical staff who will provide support to the college’s sports medicine and athletic training programs, offer clinical experience, and help cover home sporting events.
Preservationists from state university investigate the Croswell House
A team of historic preservationists have set up camp at the Croswell House in Adrian. During this week, a group of 19 students and three professors from Eastern Michigan University are examining the Croswell House, 228 Broad St. “We’re here, in part, to document the house and it’s history,” EMU professor Dan Bonenberger said.
The inaugural “Everyday Heroes” event recognized some of Lenawee County’s best from 2015.
Tuesday’s evening of honors at Adrian College’s Tobias Center recognized individuals and groups who have shown courage, kindness and unselfish acts of heroism. Family Counseling and Children’s Services of Lenawee County hosted the event.
First Female Student to Win Skills USA Automotive Refinishing Competition
Mariah Schnurstein, a senior at Summerfield High School in Monroe County, was awarded State Champion at the 2016 Skills USA State Competition in the Automotive Refinishing division last month. This recognition makes her the first female to win her division since the competition began. Skills USA is a national organization that helps prepare students for careers in technical, skilled, and service trades. Mariah was among few female competitors in her division as she helped represent the team of LISD TECH center students in Lansing.
Habitat for Humanity of Lenawee County repurposing
A two-man crew from Habitat for Humanity of Lenawee County has been hard at work over the past month in downtown Adrian salvaging materials from the Strongback development project. The crew is from Habitat’s ReStore location. They’ve been salvaging materials from the old buildings and doing some general deconstruction work. The Strongback Properties are set to begin renovation within the next few months in downtown Adrian.
